New Music Friday: 7th December 2018

Its Friday so its time for five brand new tracks to get their first spin on the hour every hour from 9am. We’ll keep playing these tracks on New Zealand Net Radio, home of streaming radio ad free 24/7 throughout New Zealand.

Mark Ronson – Nothing Breaks Like A Heart featuring Miley Cyrus

Stop the presses on single of the year – this one will be big.

Cheat Codes x Kim Petras – Feeling Of Falling

Amila – Somebody Like You

We always get very nervous when the Herald starts beating the drum of “New Zealand’s newest rising pop star” but this young woman sure has talent, and a great story.

Alessia Cara – Out Of Love

NME in its review of her new album the pains of growing said “On the evidence of this impressive and winningly authentic second album, Cara is increasingly unforgettable.” This song is just one outstanding track from this talent.

Jeff Tweedy – I Know What It’s Like

The Wilco frontman returns with solo album Warm.

Album Of The Week: Clean Bandit – What Is Love?

New Zealand Net Radio plays a song from our #albumoftheweek every hour from 9am to 12pm Monday to Friday. Listen in @tunein at https://tunein.com/radio/New-Zealand-Net-Radio-s305138/

This album doesn’t seem exactly new – a bit like Rita Ora’s recent album, in the streaming age albums seem more like roundup compilations of recent singles. Some of these have been around a while – “I Miss You” featuring Julia Michaels has been around since October last year for example. That said, the classically trained musicians have kept producing consistently great pop. With 22 collaborators in tow we’ll enjoy some familiar and new tracks this week. “Baby” with Marina & The Diamonds and “Mama” with Ellie Goulding are particular standouts among the new material.

GRAACE – SOS

A great track off her recent EP Self-Sabotage

Anne-Marie – Perfect to Me

An uplifting track from the British pop phenomenon.

Billie Eilish – come out and play

Part of Apple’s ‘holiday’ (i.e. Christmas) campaign another nice track following on from “when the party’s over” a few weeks ago.

Norah Jones – Wintertime

Avalanche City – Prayed For Love

And we saved the best for last (in our humble opinion!). We haven’t heard any music from this amazing Kiwi artist since 2015. This fantastic track presages his new album My Babylon early next year – can’t wait!

Album of the Week: Rita Ora – Phoenix

New Zealand Net Radio plays a song from our #albumoftheweek every hour from 9am to 12pm Monday to Friday. Listen in @tunein at https://tunein.com/radio/New-Zealand-Net-Radio-s305138/

Rita Ora’s new album has been greeted with universal acclaim. Six years in the making (due to legal disputes with her label) a lot of the album feels familiar. This is a function of the streaming age, with singles being dropped over time. We’ve been listening to the late Avicii with Rita on “Lonely Together” and “For You” from the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack for a fair while now but there are plenty of new treats here. NME described it accurately as “a confident pop gem that stands tall on its own”. We look forward to it this week.

Album of the Week: Mumford & Sons – Delta

Loving the new Mumford & Sons album – look out for three more tracks tomorrow morning – or listen below!

Album of the Week: Mumford and Sons – Delta

New Zealand Net Radio plays a song from our #albumoftheweek every hour from 9am to 12pm Monday to Friday. Listen in @tunein at https://tunein.com/radio/New-Zealand-Net-Radio-s305138/

Mumford and Sons surprisingly achieved huge success in the 2000s with banjo strumming folk, against all the odds. Their 2015 album Wilder Mind ‘electrified’ them to mixed responses. This album continues their evolution with new sounds, although lead single “Guiding Light” still has the banjo-esque sound. This album has received some mixed reviews, however trust us – there are some great and varied tunes here.

New Music Friday – 16th November 2018

Its Friday so its time for five brand new tracks to get their first spin on the hour every hour from 9am. We’ll keep playing these tracks on New Zealand Net Radio, home of streaming radio ad free 24/7 throughout New Zealand.

NOURI – Where Do We Go From Here

New Zealand’s latest pop star . . . now based in LA. Hope her dreams come through – certainly a great first single.

Jonas Blue, Jessie Reyez, Juan Magan – Wherever You Go

From the British DJ’s first album, another great track from a nice selection of recent and new tracks.

dodie – If I’m Being Honest

From her forthcoming EP Human,  dodie is an English singer-songwriter from Essex.

Leisure – Feeling Free

An awesome summer track from the Kiwi (Auckland) quintet.

Tom Odell – If You Wanna Love Somebody

Quite a classy English songwriter who has been releasing music since 2012, Tom Odell hasn’t made too much of an impact in New Zealand. His new album Jubilee Road has some pretty classy music on it. We’ll be adding more tracks in coming weeks.

Album of the Week: Imagine Dragons – Origins

New Zealand Net Radio plays a song from our #albumoftheweek every hour from 9am to 12pm Monday to Friday. Listen in @tunein at https://tunein.com/radio/New-Zealand-Net-Radio-s305138/

Only a couple of years after the smash hit album Evolve comes Imagine Dragons’ fourth album, 12 tracks of solid pop rock, written to conquer the charts. Although the singles don’t seem quite as strong as the last album this is still a great listening experience, if you enjoy melodic thumping rock.

Whew – massive week. We’ve already added a fantastic track from Indie band Sunflower Bean (“Come For Me”), and all this to look forward to – and more new tracks coming on the weekend. NZ Hip Hop/Rap artist Kings has put out a great new album with a huge range of sounds. We’re not into the rap stuff, but we love “Carry You”!

Tarn PK – Talk To You

Galantis – Emoji

Kings – Carry You

Ellie Goulding & Diplo – Close To Me
