Ben Howard – There’s Your Man

Ben’s new album was released last week. We’ve been playing “Towing The Line” for a while but Noonday Dream is filled with pretty chilled synthy music. The Independent described it as expanding “the Cornish landscape that has impacted his previous work and brings in sounds and instruments that spark the imagination for places further afield, in the most exquisite way”.

Peter Yorn & Scarlett Johansson – Iguana Bird

We’ve been looking forward to this new EP since the track “Bad Dreams was released a few weeks ago, with its noir video. Iguana Bird is another great track.

Mallrat – Groceries

Mallrat is Grace Shaw, an Australian singer-songwriter. This great track off her new EP In The Sky sounds fantastic, and I must admit the cover caught my eye!

Maroon 5 – Girl Like You ft Cardi B

OK its unashamedly commercial, a collaboration between pop superstars Maroon 5 and Cardi B, a smooth pop confection designed for maximum radio spins and streams. But there’s a reason – its infectious great pop that works!

Flight Facilities – All Your Love ft. Justin Tebbutt

Folk singer Justin Tebbutt lays down great vocals over Flight Facilities delicate synths in this nice number, another standalone single from the Australian duo. We’re told more great singles are to come soon.

New Music Friday: 1st June 2018

Passenger – Hell Or High Water

We’ve been enjoying the sweet folk of British singer/songwriter Mike Rosenberg for a few years now. Ahead of a new album this new song delivers more satisfaction.

Ray LaMontagne – Such A Simple Thing

From his new album, Ray (smash hit “Trouble” from a few years ago) has produced an album with a variety of sounds, less growl and more smooth. This first single has a hint of country. Worth investigating further.

Lowell – No Talk

The second album from Canadian Lowell, its filled with alt-pop pleasure. “No Talk” struck us as worthy of further investigation.

Liz Lawrence – Circling Numbers

Liz is an English singer-songwriter and belongs to the electro-pop duo Cash+David. She’s back with this cracking single, following on from a double A side late last year. Nice clean grooves . .

pronoun – run

This apparently started out as an album track, but ended up getting released as a single by this Brooklyn singer. A superb track with a nice stilted vocal on the first verse, a very satisfying track that’ll be going into high rotation. Oh – and great to hear some nice ringing guitar!

Nerina Pallot – Man Didn’t Walk On The Moon

Nerina is a British artist who has released five albums and a stack of EPs. This song came out on her most recent album Stay Lucky.

Ruel – Dazed & Confused

Ruel was discovered by producer M-Phazes in 2015. From Australia, he has already gained plenty of exposure touring with Angus & Julia Stone and Khalid. The 15 year old has produced another solid track.

LOWES – Here We Are

This four piece from Lancashire in the UK have produced a great piece of pop. Starting out with simple voice and piano, it ramps up with a plaintiff chorus.

Billy Raffoul – Could You Be Mine?

We loved his track Driver from a couple of months ago. The Canadian has been releasing a flurry of singles featuring his very special voice. We like this gentle acoustic infused number.

Elohim – Half Love

Elohim is apparently the plural noun for god in Hebrew. She is also an electro-pop artist from LA who choses to avoid the public eye. This song is off her newly released self titled album and sounds great.

New Music Friday: 20th April 2018

  Alae – Stone Cold

An Auckland (New Zealand) 3 piece band, this single is a followup to their debut “Too Strung Up”. They said on the NZ Music site:

‘Stone Cold’ is a celebration of the complexities of new love and the conflicting emotions that arise. Introduced with a delicate guitar line, a building groove and an airy, effervescent chorus it’s an aural embodiment of an emotional journey laid bare. Vocalist Alex Farrell-Davey explains – “Love is a consuming and confronting high – it can alter your perspective on everything. Once the hit sinks in, paranoia and the second guessing begins. The song goes on to accept the conflict as part of the whole experience and finally brushes it off in the chorus -“There’s all these things that I want to do with you by my side. For the first time in my entire life, well, I don’t mind.”

Eliott – Over & Over

Another very fresh artist, this is Eliott’s second single off her forthcoming debut EP. The Australian artist said:

‘Over and Over’ is a slow-burning electronic ballad about a relationship which is “not necessarily a romantic love, but a relationship between two people that no matter how much time they spend apart, days, months, years, they’ve always got your back – a kind of love you rarely find.”

NOTD – I Wanna Know (Ft Bea Miller)

Love the album cover of this new single from the Stockholm, Sweden duo. They’ve teamed up with the talented Bea Miller (19 years old but released no less than 3 EPs last year!) for this cool little number.

Princess Nokia – Look Up Kid

Off her new mixtape A Girl Cried Red this is an interesting number. We don’t play a lot of Hip Hop/Rap but maybe this is mislabelled as such – its got a great tune, nice guitar riff and a bit of spunk. See what you think … the mixtape is awesome, streets ahead of some rap artists that dominate the charts (in our humble opinion of course!).

ZAYN – Let Me

This British artist is making waves and has released this second single off an upcoming album. Its a slick catchy number.

Hatchie – Sugar & Spice

This lass from Brisbane (real name Hariette Pilbeam) released her first single, “Try” last year. This is about her third single and is great pop dealing with difficult times in relationships.

LOVA – Insecurities

The second single from this Swedish artist – some of her comments in this article.

Mansionair – Violet City

More Australian music, and a new release from ‘alt-electric’ trio Mansionair.

The Kite String Tangle – The Heights of Trees

Finally continuing the Australian theme comes a new EP out today called The Kite String Tangle Presents: In A Desperate Moment. We like this track from the electronic artist, following on from his excellent debut album last year. Good writeup here.

Tove Styrke – On The Low

James Bay – Us

Janine – Too Late
